A medium-sized company means a company that has graduated from a small-medium-sized company but is not a member of a business group that is restricted by cross-shareholding. It is also excluded if a company with a total asset of 5 trillion won or more, including foreign corporations, owns more than 30% of shares. The number of domestic medium-sized enterprises is 2505 (as of the end of 2012), accounting for 8.8% of total domestic employment and 12.8% of exports. The total sales of medium-sized enterprises are 560 trillion, which is similar to the sum of sales of large group companies (569.6 trillion). It is playing a role of 'a firm backbone' between the SMEs and the big corporations in the Korean economy. "We will act as a ladder for employment, growth and social contribution to make our economy leap." Kang Ho-Gap said.
